The CATCH Soccer Club is one of our premier projects. The club trains 100 players aged 9 to 21 years all of whom live in the informal settlement of Mzamomhle where children endure the challenges of poverty, violence, and AIDS. Many of the players have lost a parent. There is not much by the way of sporting activities in the local school, so the players enjoy the safe, green environment at CATCH, as well as the refreshments (provided CATCH players are loyal, enthusiastic, and disciplined).
This is due to the dedication of our CATCH Soccer Coach: Athenkosi Malawu.
A renowned coach who recently visited CATCH from the USA held a week long clinic for our players. The coach who has worked in developing clubs in South America was impressed by our teams’ ability to play as a team, without individual players seeking to impress to the detriment of the game. It could be that our teams’ ability to play so well together is responsible for the success of the CATCH teams.
By the end of the last 2013 season CATCH was the top of 4 leagues and also won knockouts. The Club gives young people the opportunity also to learn life skills as CATCH provides this training to all the players. When the new season begins you will be able to find our teams on the field at Bunkers Hill, near Stirling High School, as we participate in the Bunkers Hill Football Association in East London.
